Sometimes, "the pretty" costs a pretty penny.  Other times, you can find an alternative for less than half the price.  Today I want to share with you some of the pretties I found lately...at a price that keeps (pretty) shoes on my feet!

Mirrored Jewelry Box

I have lusted after this mirrored jewelry box from Urban Outfitters ever since I first saw it last fall.  It's gorgeous!  To be honest, I could've parted with the $38 that they wanted for it, and probably would've felt that I got my money's worth:

My love affair with the jewelry box continued until one day, this other handsome mirrored box caught my eye:

I realize that this box doesn't have fancy knobs or drawers, but I still get the glamorous mirrored outside.  Plus, it's a little longer than the other box so it doesn't get swallowed up by the vast expanse of the top of the dresser.  And at only $16, it's less than 1/2 the price!  Score!

A Pretty Day Dress:

We ladies (and some gents I'm sure) could all use a pretty day dress.  Something that we could wear to work, on a date or maybe even on a picnic.  I tried on this pretty dress from Anthropologie:

It's very lovely, but the price isn't...at about $128...it's a deal breaker for me.  Another dress caught my eye, however...admittedly not the exact same dress but a dress you could wear for the same occasions.  Have a look-see:

At 1/2 the price (64.99) Chadwicks offers a comparable dress with as much style (and in my opinion a better color) the the one from Anthropologie.  Also of note, Chadwicks almost always has some coupon special going on, like $20 off, or 30% off of one item...so if $65 seems pricey, look for the sales/coupons!

The Status Coffee Mug:

Everyone should have a coffee mug that accurately portrays their status to their co-workers:

Now, the question of the day...which was the "expensive" one, and which two were bought at Big Lots?

Answer:  "Princess" and "Shoe Goddess" were bought for about $3 at Big Lots, while "Office Goddess" was bought several years ago for about $13.  I would submit, however, that all three are priceless .

I hope this inspires you to keep bargain shopping!  Do you have any finds to share?  If so, please comment below.  Ta Ta!

Some pretty good advice here. This also works well for those of us with testosterone. I'll often see a cool button down shirt or sometimes some nice jeans or slacks and then I look at the price tag and flip out. $75 for a shirt? $70 for jeans? Hah!

With some searching around at places like Old Navy or JC Penny you can often times find very similar items for half the price. JC Penny is very good for this. They tend to change inventory often and you can usually find some great deals in the close out racks. I found some great button downs there that were originally $45 marked down to $15. They fit me well and looked fantastic so I bought four in different colors/patterns.

How could I forget JCP?    Thanks for adding that in!
